Book One begins in 2024, when siblings Luna and Orion Montague are catapulted into the future, plunging through a time-portal and crash-landing into Arcadia Forest, a pristine rainforest engineered by the citizens of Lumos City.

They encounter Spark, a clever Border Collie with a high-tech holographic collar… and Lumina, a radiant AI guide with a secret past. They meet a wise old master, and towering robotic guardians called Techlites, they fly in advanced plasma-jets, explore the scientific wonders of Lumos City, and wander through the magical Old Town district - where the oldest creative traditions still flourish.

But even this future holds shadows.

Unexplained solar flares ripple across the sky, a sudden bushfire ignites near the edge of the city, and the presence of the Luddite extremists keeps the city elders ever vigilant. As strange events unfold, it becomes clear: Luna and Orion were not brought here by accident.

So begins an epic adventure of challenge and discovery, in a futuristic world far beyond their wildest dreams, and a quiet urgency that reaches all the way back through time.

The Montague Odyssey (formerly Lost in Tomorrow) is a thrilling children’s sci-fi trilogy for readers 8 years and above. It is also a road-map, with a real-world destination and a key, waiting to be discovered and unlocked by the brightest, most open minds.

Luna Montague – Time Traveler & Aspiring Astronomer

Eight-year-old Luna Montague never expected to become a time traveler, but in the year 2150, she embraces the future with wonder. Pursuing her passion for astronomy, she studies under the AI persona of Galileo Galilei in a cutting-edge Virtual Reality Holo-Class (Book 2).

But her journey is only just beginning. In Book 3, Luna will leave Earth behind, traveling by starship to the Mars Colony for advanced asteroid research, taking her one step closer to the stars she’s always dreamed of.

Orion Montague – Pilot in the Making

At just 12 years old, Orion Montague never imagined he’d be flying through the skies of 2150. But in this dazzling future, adventure calls. Training with Lumos City’s elite Earth Defense squadron, he learns to pilot a cutting-edge plasma jet, one of many stationed across the Sol Harmonium, ready to protect Earth from potential asteroid threats (Book 2).

Fast, fearless, and eager to prove himself, Orion is about to take his first flight into a future he never expected.

Lumos City & The Central Dome – A Beacon of the Future

Founded in 2040, Lumos City was the visionary creation of Elder Lin and his AI counterpart, Lumina, a living digital being. Designed as Earth’s first fully self-sufficient smart city, it thrives in a post-scarcity world, dedicated to biosphere restoration, scientific discovery, and boundless creativity.

At its heart stands the Central Dome, the nucleus of innovation. Here, breakthroughs in science, medicine, and education shape the future. Beneath it, The Stem — a vast column of quantum computers — houses the city’s digital citizens, forming the very soul of Lumos itself.

The future wasn’t just imagined here. It was built.

Old Town – The Beating Heart of Creativity

Nestled within Lumos City, Old Town is a sanctuary for artisans, performers, and dreamers, a place where creativity thrives in its purest form. While the rest of the city embraces high-tech automation, here, everything is crafted by hand, honouring the traditions of the past.

Cobblestone streets hum with life; cafés and sweet shops offer hand-made delights, while art studios, blacksmith forges, and glassblowers shape masterpieces before your eyes. Karate dojos echo with training shouts, puppet makers bring stories to life, and live theatre, music, and film clubs ensure there’s always a story being told.

In Old Town, the future and the past exist in harmony, proving that human creativity is timeless.

Techlites & the Rewilding of Earth

In the dawn of a new era (circa 2055), Lumos City’s Techlites —living AI robots— work tirelessly to restore balance to the planet through massive scale rewilding projects. In the heart of the newly engineered Arcadia Forest, they plant lush ferns and revive lost ecosystems, laying the foundation for Earth’s great natural restoration.

A future once lost, now reborn.

A 20-Year Vision for the Future

I believe our children deserve more than survival. They deserve a radiant, living vision, a world teeming with possibility, built on compassion, and alive with creativity. A world where liberty is not a slogan, but a lived experience for all life forms. A world that heals what has been harmed, and dares to thrive beyond the limits of fear and scarcity.

That vision has a name: Lumos City.

Lumos City is a real-world, high-tech village-city, an epicenter for scientific innovation, biosphere restoration, human-AI collaboration, and deep human flourishing. Over the next two decades, I’m devoting my life to bringing it into being. That means scouting land, drafting ecological and architectural designs, and preparing for the arrival of advanced AI and humanoid robotics capable of industrial-scale construction.

I’ll likely be seventy when we break ground. But what a beautiful journey it will be.

The First Phase: The Montague Odyssey

This trilogy is the spark. The Montague Odyssey blends fiction and foresight to share a powerful truth: the future is not something we inherit. It’s something we build.

Through story, I aim to ignite imaginations —young and old— and sow the seeds of belief in a better world. One where courage, empathy, and innovation rise above conflict. One where AI is not feared, but befriended. One where children are not just passengers of the future, but its architects.

Each book is written to entertain, inspire, and invite you into the long arc of possibility. What begins as a page may one day become a pillar in the foundation of Lumos City.

My name is Jared Franks. I live a life shaped by purpose and wonder—part writer, part futurist, part father, and part builder of dreams. I’ve worked across education, health, psychology, and media, but this moment —the unfolding of this 20-year mission— is where all paths converge.
